Running a go-go-go creative business isn’t the vibe. Leading with heart and soul IS.

2022 was a big learning year for me. My struggles with infertility and pregnancy loss sparked some major lifestyle changes that have positively impacted my business AND overall well-being. I’ve started focusing less on working ALL hours of the day and have begun to build mindful, heart-led practices into my daily routines.

Here are four habits that can help YOU create a more heart and soul centred business:

Limit your scrolling time

Have you ever been scrolling through your Instagram feed and noticed:

  • I’m barely breathing!
  • My eyes are glazing over
  • I’m starting to feel kinda anxious
  • … I have NO IDEA how long I’ve been doing this for

(Been there)

Taking intentional breaks from Instagram allows you to return to your body, your energy, your breath, and your tasks at hand (it does wonders for your productivity). Set boundaries around your social media time by fully logging off in the evenings or deleting the app on the weekends (just remember to post your reel drafts, first!).

Start your day with nourishing routines

Instead of jumping straight into work mode, kick off your day with any (or all) of the following: a walk in the sunshine, guided meditation, stretching, yoga, or pilates, a healthy meal, a crossword puzzle, or reading a book.

Here’s what my current morning routine looks like:

  • Sometime between 6:30 – 7:30 am: wake up and head to the couch to snuggle with Pepper (my sweet little aussiedoodle puppy!)
  • 7:30 am: drink a VERY LARGE jar of water with lemon juice, eat a small container of yogurt, and make a coffee. Side note: I’ve discovered that eating protein before having my first cup of coffee has done wonders for my anxiety!
  • 7:45 am: do a guided meditation, journal, and pull an oracle card for the day.
  • 8:30 am: do a short Melissa Wood pilates class online
  • Sometime between 8:45 – 9:00 am: get outside and take Pepper for a morning walk around our neighborhood. The length of the walk totally depends on the time of year (we live waaaay up North in Canada, so winter walks are chilly).
  • 9:15 am: quick shower and make a second breakfast
  • 9:30 am: head to my desk to start the work day with Voxer check ins.

Show up and sell!

I view selling as an act of love and service… not a sleazy tactic. You have an AMAZING offering that provides deep, transformational value to your clients. They need to know about it!

Holding back from sharing about how you can help your people is doing them (and your business) a disservice. Selling every single day that I’m on social media is an important (and very effective) part of my heart-led business model.

BY THE WAY. If you need infusing more heart and soul into your creative business sales, I have the perfect mini course for you.

Practice daily gratitude

This last one is short and sweet. Take time each day to practice gratitude for the little and big things flowing your way. Write out a list or speak them out loud. (I do this during the journaling portion of my morning routine).

Where attention goes, energy flows!

To sum up: adding more heart-led habits into your daily life and creative business routines will help you feel SO MUCH BETTER (and take you off the fast track to burn out!).
